Uruguay’s Juan Manuel Luzardo and Stan blazed through the timers to win last year’s Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping qualifying event, the first ever that Mexico had hosted. American Audrey Coulter and Alex were the only pair to come close to Juan’s time, finishing second. Juan was pleased with the progress of his 10-year-gelding. “He has come a long way in a short time. He was injured and had a year off. Just two months after he came back we won a grand prix..”

Guadalajara will host what will be the largest FEI event in Latin America this year, taking place January 25-29.

At last year’s competition, riders showed up hungry for the win to earn points at one of the two final qualifying opportunities in the League. Ultimately it was Egypt’s Nayel Nassar who took the prize, coming out on top in a three-horse jump-off, beating second-place finisher Jamie Barge by more than a second. “I took the inside to turn to the oxer by the gate,” said Nayel. “I didn’t get the chance to see Jamie go but people at the gate told me she was very efficient, so I knew I had to catch up to her there.”

The HITS Desert Horse Park in Thermal, California, will host the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Thermal as well as several other notable FEI classes this February. Spanning four days of competition from February 7-12, highlights include the $36,500 Desert Welcome Stake February 9, the $36,500 Desert Classic February 10, and of course the the $100,000 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Qualifier at 3 p.m. February 11.

Last year, show jumper and eventer Marilyn Little set the bar by being the first rider to go clear in the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Ocala jump-off, and she remained in her position to take the win with Corona 93. Of the 10 horse-and-rider combinations in the jump-off, only three riders went clear. Chloe Reid finished second and Katie Dinan was third for an all-female podium sweep. “It was a very long course, and the horses jumped to the best of their ability,” said Marilyn. “It was a real thrill for both horse and rider.”

Like last year, the final qualifying event of the season, the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Ocala, will take place at the Live Oak International, March 8-12, in Ocala, Florida.
