Frankie Thieriot stayed focused and on her game plan with her 10-year-old Chatwin, and the two held onto their overnight lead after posting a quick, careful cross country round on Saturday afternoon. Frankie, an adult amateur who hails from California, earned a Jacqueline B. Mars Competition Grant to help offset travel costs for Chatwin.

Boyd Martin and Long Island T hop over the brush fence of the Frog Pond, the first of three water complexes on the CCI*** course. The pair picked up four cross-country time penalties, but a double-clear show jumping round on Sunday afternoon ensured a second-place finish to their weekend.

Buck Davidson and Archie Rocks, a relatively new ride owned by Maya Simmons, easily navigate the tricky angled logs, a combination late on course that caught up several competitors. Buck and the Thoroughbred gelding were one of only two pairs to post double-clear rounds in the CCI***. A rail down at the final show jumping fence bumped them from second to third.

Fan favorites, Allie Sacksen-Blyskal and her small but mighty Connemara/Thoroughbred gelding Sparrow's Nio, power over the angled tables in the CCI*** course. The pair won the CCI** in 2013 and have also successfully completed Land Rover Kentucky CCI****, but unfortunately it was not their weekend and they opted to retire after run-outs on course.

Phillip Dutton guided his sole ride at Fair Hill, an up-and-coming off-the-track Thoroughbred named Sea of Clouds, to two double-clear jumping rounds in the two-star, moving up from 29th to 6th.

Over its 30 year history, Fair Hill has hosted its fair share of muddy cross-country days. Luck was on its side this year, and the dry weather and beautifully prepared course helped attribute to a 69% clear jumping rate over Derek di Grazia’s CCI*** course. Kudos to all the hardworking staff, volunteers and officials who helped make this year's event a success!
