October 21, 2015–Two USEF One-Star Eventing National Championships will be awarded this weekend as part of the 2015 Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event & Team Challenge. Taking place at the Kentucky Horse Park from October 22-24, 76 horse-and-rider combinations will contest a national title.

In the USEF National One-Star Championship for the Richard Collins Trophy, over 50 competitors, age 22 or over, will compete. Fresh off a spectacular performance for The Dutta Corp./USEF Two-Star Eventing National Championship during last weekend’s The Dutta Corp. Fair Hill International, Olympian Will Coleman (Gordonsville, Va.) will work for the same results with his own Butch Cassidy. He and the 2009 Spanish Thoroughbred gelding were the Reserve Champions of the CCI1* at Bromont in June.

On Coleman’s heels will be five-time Olympian and Gold medalist Phillip Dutton (West Grove, Pa.), Fair Hill International’s The Dutta Corp./USEF Three- and Two-Star Eventing Reserve Champion. He will ride Icabad Crane, a 2005 Thoroughbred gelding, who has performed magnificently throughout the year and is coming off a win at the Plantation Field International CIC1*.

The 2015 Jersey Fresh CCI3* winner, Buck Davidson (Ocala, Fla.), enters four horses in this championship. Davidson took three top-ten spots in the CCI1* at the Ocala Horse Properties International 3-Day Festival of Eventing in April. Also entering multiple horses are Laine Ashker (Richmond, Va.), Rebecca Hoos (Franklin, Tenn.), Michelle Koppin (Ann Arbor, Mich.), and Natalia Neneman (Ocala, Fla.).

The USEF National Junior and Young Rider Championship for the Harry T. Peters Trophy will feature a substantial field of competitors between the ages of 14 and 21. Caroline Martin (Miami Beach, Fla.) and Mikensey Johansen (Hamilton, Ga.) will each enter two horses. This will be Martin’s first CCI1* competition this year, following two top-ten finishes in CIC3* competitions and five top-ten finishes in CIC2* competitions in 2015.

Competition for both divisions gets underway Thursday at 8:00 am ET with dressage. Cross country follows on Friday, and competition wraps up on Saturday with show jumping.
