September 18, 2015–Practical Horseman magazine is pleased to announce the winner of the Training with the Stars: Win a Day with Jim Wofford and Sharon White contest. Liza Green, who lives in Dexter, Michigan, was chosen from a group of 10 finalists to receive a day of instruction from Olympic eventing medalist and five-time U.S. National champion Jim Wofford and four-star eventer Sharon White.
The contest, sponsored by Blue Seal, asked entrants to submit a 250-word or less essay detailing why they deserve to win a one-day educational clinic for themselves and nine of their friends at their barn with Jim and Sharon. Ten finalists were selected out of more than 430 unique entries to submit videos of themselves and their horses.
Liza, a pediatric rehabilitation doctor and mother of four daughters, was selected from the finalists based on the strength of both her essay and video. She has competed through Preliminary level and is also bringing along an off-the-track Thoroughbred gelding, who recently completed a Training level three-day event.
In her essay, she emphasized how the clinic would benefit the equestrian community in her area. “In fact, every eventer in southeastern MI, certainly including my 4 girls (talk about the future of eventing!), would benefit from the wisdom of Jimmy Wofford and the talent of Sharon White. This would truly be a gift to my community as a whole and I would be thrilled to be the one to be able to deliver such an amazing opportunity to my peers.”
The 10 finalists will receive a copy of Jim’s book, Modern Gymnastics. This book outlines Jim’s proven system for teaching horses to jump, which will improve any horse’s performance over fences. The book is available for purchase at www.EquineNetworkStore.com.
