This week’s episode of the Practical Horseman Podcast is with top hunter rider, trainer and clinician, Hope Glynn.

This week’s episode of the Practical Horseman Podcast, sponsored by Purina, is with top hunter rider, trainer and clinician, Hope Glynn.

Hope grew up in Northern California where she started her career as a child riding Western, doing pony club, and showing Welsh Ponies.

At 10-years-old, Hope began taking hunter-jumper lessons with Patty Ball and a few years later became her working student. Under Patty’s guidance, Hope earned her miles and reputation in the ring by catch riding at local shows.

Over the next 25 years, Hope established herself as one of the leading professional hunter riders in the country, as well as a respected judge.

Accomplishments

She is ranked 15th on the USHJA Lifetime Money Earned list. Over the course of her career, Hope has garnered two second place finishes in the HITS $500,000 Hunter Prix and has 15 International Hunter Derby wins with 15 different horses.

Hope is the recipient of the California Professional Horsemen’s Association Horseman of the Year award. She earned the Arthur Hawkins Award of Excellence in Hunters. She also has been the leading Southwest Derby Rider more than five times.

Hope has won the West Coast WCHR Hunter Spectacular three times. Additionally, she was Reserve Champion at the USHJA International Hunter Derby Final. She also holds the title for the most derbies won on multiple horses.

Hope is the proud mother and coach of her daughter, Avery Glynn, who is an accomplished junior rider. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Avery has seen success catch riding in the equitation ring. The joy of watching her daughter succeed gave Hope the nudge to change her trajectory to focus on Avery and her showing.

With time out of the show ring herself, Hope has honed in on her sales and import business. She owns and operates Hope LLC out of Northern California.

She has also ventured into the financial technology business to launch the BackGate app, which she talks about in this episode.
