The What, Why and How of Polo Wraps

Grand Prix competitor George Williams' assistant, Rani Ulrich, shares her technique for applying polo wraps.

Polo wraps are long (up to 12 feet) fabric strips that we wrap around a horse’s lower legs to support tendons and ligaments and protect them from injury if he hits himself while schooling. Even if your horse rarely has this problem, polos are a good idea when you begin more demanding work–such as lateral movements–in which he’s more likely to overreach or otherwise bump himself.
