Rain didn’t hinder the start of the second annual MARS Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill presented by Brown Advisory. Twelve CCI5*-L horse and rider combinations entered the Main Arena at the Fair Hill Special Event Zone to try their hand on day one of dressage.
USA’s Woods Baughman and C’est la Vie 135 were met with the heaviest downpour of the day, but that didn’t stop them from climbing to the top of the leaderboard. The duo will go into cross-country on Saturday with a score of 27.2. France’s Astier Nicolas holds the second place spot aboard Babylon de Gamma with a 29.1. And rounding out the top three was Liz Halliday-Sharp and Cooley Quicksilver, who earned a 29.3.

Competition resumes tomorrow, October 14, at 2:00 p.m. EST with day two of dressage in the Main Arena at the Fair Hill Special Event Zone.
The Maryland 5 Star will be broadcast on Maryland Public Television, ESPN3 and USEF Network in North America, and on Horse & Country TV outside North America.
